10,000 MP3s

My MP3 collection just passed 10,000. Is that a lot? How many do you have?

My 10,000th MP3, BTW, was "America" by Simon and Garfunkel. I kind of wish it was something cooler, but oh well. It's a good song.

  1. My addiction is audiobooks, I only have a couple hundred songs.

But I'm a freak about audiobooks. Including audio course from The Teaching Company and some old-time radio dramas (not many of those, to tell the truth), I have 12,735 hours, 16 minutes, 8 seconds of listening enjoyment.

  2. Wow. My 10,000 MP3s are only about 650 hours.

I've never listened to an audiobook. I'm not sure how one would, actually. Do you just sit down and listen, or do you "multitask" in some way?

  3. I fall asleep to audio books, but only because Isla sometimes plays one when we go to bed. She has tinnitus and, according to her, talking books help her to get beyond the noise in her ears, which is louder at night. I just think that she likes to listen to a horrible voice reading a book.

  4. I'm a professional window washer. I load up my mp3 player with books and listen and work, work and listen, all day long through the Spring, Summer and Fall. I've been doing it for years. I've listened to hundreds of unabridged books (I refuse to listen to abridgements) that way.

It's something of a different experience than reading because you get more precisely the story that the author intended you to receive, I believe. When you read, there's a lot of skimming that goes on, but when you're listening you hear every word, get every detail. I still read a lot, and sometimes I'll both read and listen to a book, but listening is a great story experience, often better.

What do you think?
