O, Tree of Trees!

While we were at Grandma's house, we made a quick day trip to L.A.: Little Tokyo, Hollywood, and the Santa Monica Pier. Very touristy, I know, but hey, it's been 20 years since I lived in L.A., so I am a tourist now.

And I love Hollywood Boulevard.

I love the tourists, I love the Walk of Fame -- how could this fail to bring a smile to my face? --

I love Graumann's Chinese Theater with the footprints and handprints of the stars,

the hustlers dressed in costumes working the tourists for tips,

Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium,

the Wax Museum,

more hustlers trying to get people to go on bus tours of the stars' homes, the cheesy souvenir shops.

I love it all.

But this time, I especially loved the Christmas tree. A giant Christmas tree, right on Hollywood Boulevard.

But wait, it gets better. Because it's not just a giant Christmas tree on Hollywood Boulevard, it's a giant Scientology Christmas tree on Hollywood Boulevard.

But it gets even better than that. Because it's not just a giant Scientology Christmas tree on Hollywood Boulevard, it's a giant Scientology Christmas tree in L. Ron Hubbard's Winter Wonderland on Hollywood Boulevard.

O, joy! O, joy! O, joy! There are days when I think the entire universe is just a big conspiracy to amuse me. If you were to ask me if I spent the rest of that day in a fog of sheer comic happiness after seeing that, I would have to answer, "Yes. Yes, I did." I love L.A.
