Lots of times, the most familiar version of a song isn't the original version. I'll be posting some of these "covers that you might not have known are covers" on Saturdays.
Familiar version: Aretha Franklin (1967)
Original version: Otis Redding (1965)
Otis Redding was great, but Aretha Franklin's version is definitive. I think the song takes on a deeper meaning when a woman sings it. But great, um, respect to Otis for writing the song in the first place.
